President Obama Kills The American Dream

In what may be THE turning point in the 2012 Presidential campaign, last Saturday President Obama spoke at a campaign rally in Roanoke, Virginia. What did he say?

“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think…Well, it must be ‘cause I was just so smart! There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something, there are a whole bunch of hard working people out there. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that!”

His comments struck a very tender nerve in the general populace, whether they are business owners or not.  People jumped on FaceBook and posted creative and hilarious pictures of the president in different scenarios saying “You didn’t build that!”  Their humor belied their anger at the president’s statements.

You see, in one speech, President Obama obliterated The American Dream.  Hundreds of millions of ordinary people have immigrated to America over the short course of its history.  Why?  Because they know that only in America can they dare to dream. They believe, as we all do, that if you work hard enough and sacrifice hard enough, you do not have to be a rocket scientist or a brain surgeon to achieve success.

Through his statements, President Obama revealed exactly what he thinks about America, and… more importantly… how he feels about this country.

We cannot condemn the president for his comments. The truth is, President Obama was speaking from his own experience.  He is where he is only because someone helped him get there…this is all he knows.  He has not accomplished anything on his own!  He has never had to meet a payroll, deal with the IRS, wade through all of the constantly changing rules and regulations facing small and large business owners alike.  He has never dealt with the uncertainty that bills like the Affordable Care Act and the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act create when making decisions in the operations of their companies.

How do we expect to get America back on the right path unless we elect someone who understands what we all believe?  Someone who has dreamed the dream and been successful.  Someone who believes in American exceptionalism, and will restore the very soul of our country.
