The federal government revenue/tax is .45 cents for every gallon of gas. The oil companies make about .08 cents per gallon. The gas taxes are supposed to be allocated for highway and transportation infrastructure. We are not “allowed” to have these cars, because if we got better mileage,  the government would lose this revenue stream. […]
